Volunteer Involvement in MWBA: Simon designed and has maintained MWBA's website, "The Sea Eagles' Nest" since its inception in 1998. He was Chairman of the MWBA Appeals Tribunal from 2000 to 2003. In 2002 he joined the Board of Directors as Vice President, Company Secretary and NBISC representative. For the first few months of 2003 he was acting president of the association. His primary volunteer efforts have, however, been devoted to the senior representative program. Having represented MWBA in the State League since 1996, Simon put his playing career on hold in 2002 to devote more time to ensuring the Sea Eagles returned to top level representative basketball. His efforts were rewarded in 2003 with the senior mens and women's teams enjoying a tremendously successful debut season in the ABA Waratah League. In 2007 Simon continues to represent MWBA as Director and Secretary of the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre.
Basketball Background: Simon started playing competitve basketball in 1989 in the MWBA u14 boys. His Pittwater House school team was coached by then MWBA senior rep - Phil Webster and attended holiday camps run by then Sydney King's big man Brad Dalton. Simon was selected in the Independent Schools Association team in 1992, and from 1993 to 1996 played local comp with the Supernovas club progressing from Division 3 to Division 1. In 1994 he completed his level 1 coaching certificate and as a uni student coached school teams for several years. In 1996 the State League mens team was scouting for new recruits and Simon joined Captain/Coach Noel Mitchell for his rookie year as a senior Sea Eagle. The same year he started his own club team, S.W.I.S.H., playing in the Division 1 local competition. In 1997 Simon learnt a new meaning of fitness under Sydney Championships coach Shaun O'Connell before joining the MWBA Youth League side mid-season before returning to State League in 1998. Simon also assisted Scott Cranfield with the coaching of the womens State League side in 1998 and took over the head coaching role in 1999 when Scott moved interstate. In 1999 and 2000 Simon was selected to represent Sydney University at the Eastern Conference and Australian University Games. In 2000, with the core of the State League womens team leaving to play in the foreunner to the ABA Waratah conference, he coached the u18 womens team in the Sydney Junior Championships. Taking on the role of State League captain in 1999, Simon remained in the state league team, having completed his 6th straight senior season for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in 2001. In 2002 he took a break from playing in order to work with Brad Dalton to progress MWBA's senior representative program and coached the women's youth side as well as working on game presentation including court announcing for the Youth men's team. In 2003 he took on the arduous task of coordinating MWBA's inaugural ABA season, but managed to start training with the ABA men's squad mid-season. In 2004 and 2005 Simon continued to represent MWBA as a member of the Sea Eagles ABA men's team. In 2005, Simon's local competition team, SWISH, finally won a division 1 championship. In 2007 Simon continues to play in the division 1 local competition with 'The Commissioners'.
