 Janice Crosswhite - Life Member
Achievements: Janice joined the board of MWBA in 1994, taking responsibility for facility development. As President of MWBA (until 2002) she lobbied the three northern beaches councils for outdoor basketball courts and an indoor multi-purpose sports centre, resulting in a successful partnership with Pittwater Council, Academy Netball and MWBA to develop the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre in the grounds of Narrabeen Sports High School. She served as the Secretary of the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre (NBISC) during its formative years and only recently (April 2002) retired from MWBA and NBISC to plan for her family's move to Melbourne in anticpation of hosting the 2006 Commonwealth Games. If not for her positive spirit, her expertise in sports management and her endless volunteer hours given over the past decade, Manly Warringah Basketball Association would not be enjoying the wonderful new NBISC facility - now entering its second year of operation.
Basketball Background: Janice has a long history of involvement in sport as a participant. She represented Victoria in softball, basketball and hockey and the University of Melbourne in track and field. Janice is still playing basketball and plays for 'Avalon' in the MWBA Wednesday night Open Women's Competition. She also enjoys competing in Masters Basketball tournaments. In 1994 she won a gold medal for foul shooting at the World Masters Championships and her masters team has won a number of Australian Championships. Janice's children, Julia, Anna and Ian Crosswhite have played representative basketball for MWBA and NSW.
Professional Background: Janice has been a physical education teacher, adviser and lecturer in Victoria, as well as a primary producer. In the ACT she worked for ACHPER (Australian Council for health, Physical Education and Recreation), the Australian Sports Commission and the ACT Government. In NSW she has been employed by local governments, sporting associations, clubs and companies. As a volunteer Janice has made a considerable contribution to sport as a coach, an administrator and on various educational and sporting boards and committees. Janice is now a Director of "Crosswhite Consulting", a sport and recreation consultancy.
